Introducing SoWe Bar & Kitchen

Marketing entrepreneur Nancy Law and her business partner Troy Barton have taken over the space that was Divan Turkish Kitchen at 918 S. 22nd Street (22nd and Carpenter), and are planning to open SoWe Bar & Kitchen, serving modern bistro cuisine, craft-brewed beers, artisan wines and creative cocktails beginning in April.

“We want this restaurant to be a centerpiece of the neighborhood,” said Law. “That’s why we named it SoWe.” SoWe, short for Southwest Center City, is what the area has been referred to as it has become gentrified over the past couple of years.

The stylish, fifty-seat SoWe will be a serious restaurant with a great vibe. Adorned with earth-toned walls, a reclaimed wood floor, and a handmade bar crafted from weathered oak, the inviting space will utilize mood lighting and a cool soundtrack to help guests relax and indulge. Open seven days a week for dinner as well as Saturday and Sunday Brunch, menu prices will run between $7 and $15 for appetizers, and from the mid-teens to the mid-twenties for entrees.

“We’re going to serve a great burger, a hearty bowl of mussels and delicious roast chicken, along with some new twists on bistro fare,” said Barton. “We’re also excited to keep the kitchen open late and offer a late-night happy hour for our neighbors and restaurant professionals who live nearby.”

A South Jersey native who has lived in the Delaware Valley her entire life, Law waited tables and worked catering jobs while attending college, then spent eight years marketing special events for a collegiate marketing company. She later ran the sales and marketing for Guest Informant and Where magazine globally until leaving to launch Essential Media Partners with Barton in 2003. Today, Essential Media Partners creates visitors guides, builds mobile websites and develops marketing tools for hotels, restaurants and attractions around the world. The Smithsonian and The NFL are longtime clients.

Barton, an Orlando, Florida native, also waited tables while attending college, and then became a marketing agent for the restaurants he worked for. He joined Nancy on the sales and marketing team at Guest Informant in 1993 and worked his way up to Regional VP of Sales by 1998 before leaving to start Essential Media Partners with Law in 2003.
